PAACT is a parent coalition with families from all 13 Birmingham Public Schools. We believe the foundation of a strong school is a teacher who feels safe, supported, and heard. When that holds, students do better. That belief is why we are asking to hear from you directly.
This survey is built from the district's own commitments: the Birmingham Compass Strategic Plan, board policy, the Code of Conduct, and the teacher contract. We want to understand how close the day to day reality is to the standards the district has set for itself, in your words.
We are not here to evaluate any individual. We will report what we learn as patterns, never as anything tied to a person or a classroom.
Your responses are anonymous. We do not collect your name, your email, your IP address, or any login. Nothing you answer can be traced back to you.
The only way we will ever contact you is if you choose, at the end, to sign up for the teacher round table on a separate form. That is optional and kept apart from your answers.
Please do not include any student names or identifying details in your written answers.
Most questions are a short statement. Tap the answer closest to your experience. A few ask how often.
There are no wrong answers, you can skip any question, and most teachers finish in about ten minutes.

Section One
About You
Two broad questions so we can see patterns across levels. Neither identifies you.
Section Two
Feeling Safe, Valued, and Supported
The Strategic Plan sets the bar at 90 percent of staff feeling safe, valued, and supported. Board policy commits to a work environment where employees can succeed, and prohibits retaliation against anyone who raises a concern.
Section Three
Discipline and Classroom Support
The contract gives you the right to administrative backing on discipline, to consultation when a disciplinary call is overruled, and to a prompt threat response. The Code of Conduct sets the district's restorative practices framework.
Section Four
Student Support and Resources
The district's own climate data shows it has become harder over the past two years for students to get the extra support they need. We want to understand that from inside the classroom.
Section Five
Working Conditions and Workload
The contract sets limits on class size, preparations, planning time, and how schedule changes are handled. Board policy commits the district to a work environment that lets employees succeed.
Section Six
Curriculum, Judgment, and Professional Learning
The contract protects your judgment over how you teach, and pacing guides are general guidelines, not day by day mandates. The Strategic Plan sets a goal that 90 percent of staff find professional learning relevant.
Section Seven
Evaluation and Professional Growth
Board Policy 4004 commits the district to an evaluation system that is rigorous, transparent, and fair, meant to improve performance and encourage growth. Teachers are evaluated on the 5D+ tool.
Section Eight
Communication and District Initiatives
A goal in the Strategic Plan is transparent, relevant two-way communication with all stakeholders. These ask how district leadership is doing on that.
Section Nine
In Your Own Words
These are optional. Please leave out any student names or identifying details.
